What Information Is Needed for a Plastic Pipe Quotation?

A field-by-field RFQ checklist for accurate PVC, ABS, PP, PE, hose and custom PC tubing quotations.

Quick Checklist

An accurate plastic-pipe or custom-tubing quotation needs three groups of information:

  1. Application and performance: what the product does and where it is installed.
  2. Product specification: material, dimensions, pressure or load, color and length.
  3. Commercial scope: quantity, packing, destination, trade term and documents.

The website inquiry form is intentionally simple—name, email and product requirement—because buyers may not know every field at first contact. The following checklist shows what can be added in the message or confirmed during follow-up.

1. Product and Application

State the exact product page or general product type. Examples include PE irrigation pipe, PP chemical-transfer pipe, clear PVC tube, ABS profile, custom PP curtain-rod tube or custom PC tube.

Explain:

  • Fluid, cable, component or end use
  • Indoor, outdoor, buried or equipment installation
  • Pressure or non-pressure operation
  • Normal and maximum temperature
  • Chemical, UV or weather exposure
  • Required stiffness, flexibility or load

Application details are essential when the material is not final.

2. Material and Standard

Provide the required material family and grade, such as a specified PVC, ABS, PP, PE or PC resin grade. For custom products, state restrictions on recycled content, fillers, pigments or food-contact requirements.

List the applicable standard, tender specification or customer drawing. If none is fixed, state the destination market and intended use.

3. Dimensions

Use a clear measurement basis:

Dimension Example
Outside diameter OD110 mm
Inside diameter ID8 mm
Wall thickness 6.6 mm
SDR SDR17
Length 12 m per piece or 100 m per coil
Tolerance OD ±0.2 mm, when critical

Do not mix OD, DN and inch sizes without a reference.

For profiles or custom tubes, attach a cross-section drawing. Identify dimensions that mate with other parts.

4. Pressure, Temperature or Mechanical Load

For fluid pipe, provide normal and maximum pressure, surge and temperature. For gravity drainage, state that no internal pressure is expected and provide burial or stiffness requirements. For decorative or structural tubes, provide span, support spacing and load.

5. Color, Surface and Marking

State base color, stripe, transparency, gloss or matte surface and any color reference. If printing is required, provide artwork, text, marking interval and ink or durability expectation.

6. Quantity

List quantity by item. Use both pieces or coils and total meters where possible. For custom products, state trial quantity and expected annual or repeat volume because tooling and process selection may depend on scale.

7. Packing

Specify:

  • Bundle, coil, bag, carton or pallet
  • Protective film or separators
  • End protection
  • Label content
  • Maximum bundle weight
  • Retail or bulk pack
  • Container-loading restriction

Long tubes and surface-sensitive profiles require packing approval before production.

8. Destination and Trade Term

Provide country, port and preferred term: EXW, FOB, CIF or another agreed basis. Freight cannot be estimated accurately without destination and packing volume.

9. Documentation and Inspection

List required documents, tests and inspection. Examples include material declaration, dimensional report, pressure test, marking verification, certificate of origin or third-party inspection. Confirm timing and cost before order placement.

10. Timeline

State the required delivery date and whether tooling, sample approval or trial production is needed. Ask the supplier to separate sample lead time, production lead time and transit estimate.

Example: Custom Tubing Inquiry

We require a white PP round tube for a lightweight curtain-rod project. OD25 mm, wall thickness 1.0 mm, length 2.0 m, smooth surface, 5,000 pieces. Please review straightness and deflection for a 1.2 m support spacing. Pack with protective film in long cartons. Destination: Busan, South Korea. Please state MOQ, sample lead time and production lead time.

FAQ

What is the minimum information for a first inquiry?

Provide name, email and product requirement. In the requirement, include the application, preferred material or product, size, approximate quantity and destination when known.

What additional details make a quotation accurate?

Material grade, standard, OD, ID, wall thickness or SDR, pressure, temperature, length, tolerance, color, marking, packing and documents improve accuracy.

What if the buyer does not know the specification?

Describe the medium, pressure, temperature, installation environment, route, mating parts and target quantity. The supplier can identify the missing technical questions.
